Full Moon and Rain

A cool damp August night of dark
Where the moon is the only mark
The cumulous clouds cover the light
And we know we have past day to night

The eerie air is nothing but still
The mist swoops down to make its kill
It shrouds the earth and covers all
And with its shiver we expect a wolf call

The leaves rustle in the slight breeze
As it cloaks us in an almost ease
But thought takes flight, we ponder fright
Alone we ache for the sunrise light

We hear the sounds in the treetops
But as quick as it started, it stops
The flutter of the beating of the flapping fare
Not really moving, just breaking the air

The grass grows under our feet
Are nightmares and dreams supposed to meet?
The clash of the heartbeat of the cloud
We hold steadfast, stand proud

The sheets of rain, start falling readily
We no longer hear the wilderness medley
We run for cover, leaving muddied tracks
As the rains pounds down on our back

We seek refugee in a fire-warmed room
And soon forget of the night's full moon
