That's a good question. It's a common misconseption that Anime is for children. People see animation and automatically think Pokémon. Which was designed for children. So people automaically associate Anime with Children's cartoons. Well, the truth is, Pokémon is under one genre of Anime. There are several types, like normal movies, ranging from toddlers to adults. (XXX rated... Otherwise known as Hentai.) Series like Bubblegum Crisis, my favorite Anime if you couldn't tell, is targetted to the older audiences. It contains nudity and violence. So Anime does not mean a child's cartoon. (Truthfully, parents really should be weary of what Anime they would pick up for a younger child. I saw at a local Albertson's Vampire Princess Miyu in the Children's / Family section. Yeah, that's a great pick for your child. Only if you want to give your child a complex and later on down the road pay for his psych bills.)
America has hit a pretty big Anime fad right now. It's has become very popular that even tv channels are quickly buying the rights to Anime that is just started airing or just finished airing in Japan and dubbing them for TV. Eventhough I don't watch said Anime, I do like the fact it's popular. Though I personally DO NOT like the people that think Dragon Ball Z is awesome and only know what's on TV. |
